Barrier-Free Hiking Tips

"Panorama-Allee West"

Difficulty

Beautiful, sunny and almost flat scenic path

Time

with wheelchair, 3 to 4 hours start to finish

Assistance

1-2 companions recommended

Route

From the events center to the Protestant church, past the cemetery tin the direction of the Knollhof. A beautiful, wide (also pram-friendly) path leads through the meadows and a larch forest to the Grahhof (oldest preserved Salzburg-style farmhouse), continuing flat between junipers and maples to the toll station for the Dachstein Road. Along the way, you will constantly be treated to beautiful views of the Schladminger Tauern mountains (dominated by the Steirische Kalkspitze) and the southern flank of the Scheichenspitze, as well as the "Dachstein Triumverate" (Hoher Dachstein, Mitterspitz and Torstein). Now downhill next to the stream to the junction with the Tannenweg at the foot of the Rittisberg, left through the Ramsau via Panorama-Allee West Tannenweg, taking you along the edge of the forest, via “Ramsau Beach” (swimming lake) and finally back to the town of Ramsau itself.

Ursprungalm Rundweg

Difficulty

Easy hike around the Kulmberg

Time

ca. 25 min for the full loop, not accounting for a wheelchair

Assistance

Easily managed with 1 or 2 companions

Route

You begin behind the Ursprungalm – at the sign for the "Rundweg", make a right. The path is relatively flat, with just a few small stretches that are up- or downhill. You will have to cross a few small streams with bridges.

Sonnenalm

Difficulty

Beautiful, sunny and diverse gravel road

Time

ca. 3 hours for the full tour with wheelchair

Assistance

at least 3 people per wheelchair

Route

A good gravel road leads from the tow lift on the Rittisberg to the Sonnenalm. This route is only recommended for lighter-weight wheelchair users and several strong helpers since the street does become very steep in parts.

Tip

We recommend attaching straps to help pull the wheelchair. Even with a child in the wheelchair, this hike can prove very strenuous.

Planai Panorama TOUR

Difficulty

Easy hike around the summit of the Planai, occasional ups and downs

Time

ca. 1 hour without wheelchair, with wheelchair a little longer

Assistance

1-2 helpers

Route

Ride to the top of the Planai either by car or gondola. If you opt for the gondola, you will need to check whether the wheelchair fits through the door or the user will have to be assisted onto the lift and the wheelchair folded together.

Tip

We recommend beginning this hike at the Planaihof or, once the snow is gone, from the ski path at the Weidmoosalm in the direction of the Mitterhaus, since it is relatively flat here and there is a forestry lane (personal recommendation of one of the lift employees.

Recommendation

We also recommend attaching straps to the wheelchair so that it doesn't roll away from you on downhill sections.

Schmelzofen TOUR

Difficulty

Somewhat bumpy excursion on the trail of the miners of old

Time

ca. 40 min not factoring in the wheelchair

Assistance

1-2 helpers are a must

Route

Park your car at the Holdalm, then set out in the direction of the "Schmelzofen" (the old ore smelter). The path is a little bumpy, but it's very doable with helpers. From the Schmelzofen in the direction of the Wehrhofalm, it briefly goes steeply uphill. The path from the Wehrhofalm back to the Holdalm is relatively flat and very manageable with someone to assist. (The path begins next to the Moosmandlweg).

Tip

As an alternative to the steep section, you can take the road from the Holdalm to the Wehrhofalm, then return via the flat part of the Schmelzofen path (which doesn't lead you past the smelter itself).

Recommendation

We also recommend attaching safety straps to the wheelchair, making it easier to pull uphill.

Waldhäuslalm VIA THE Sondlalm TO THE Riesach WATERFALL CAR PARK

Difficulty

Beautiful, diverse section of the "Wild Waters" theme path

Time

ca. 1 hour, not factoring in the wheelchair

Assistance

at least 1-3 people for the steep sections

Route

After the Waldhäuslalm, you will make a right, crossing the bridge in the direction of the Sondlalm. Relatively flat until that point. Only the last section before the hut drops downhill for about 100 meters. After the hut, briefly uphill, then a somewhat longer stretch downhill. Now, keep straight on the main path as far as the Angererbrücke. There, you can go a short distance along the forest path before coming to a narrow wooden bridge. Before this, you will have to go up a steep 3 m incline. After the bridge, follow the road to the Riesachsee/waterfall car park. Later, you can either return on foot (Important!! There are steep sections before and after the Sondlalm) or take the bus.

Tip

We strongly recommend attaching safety straps to help pull and secure the wheelchair.
